This procedure is done to make your vaginal opening larger for childbirth. Normally, once the baby's head is seen, your healthcare provider will ease your baby's head and chin out of your vagina. The incision divides the insertions of the superficial perineal mus cles and avoids muscle fibers as well as ma jor blood vessels.
